What To Do If You Witness An Accident
Witnessing a crash can be stressful. Staying calm helps protect everyone at the scene.
1. Protect Your Own Safety First
Pull fully off the road, turn on hazard lights, and stay clear of traffic and debris.
2. Call 911
Do not assume someone else has already called. Be ready to share:
- Your location
- Number of vehicles involved
- Visible injuries or hazards
- Whether traffic is blocked
3. Assist Carefully
If the scene appears safe, check whether anyone needs immediate help. Avoid moving injured people unless there is urgent danger.
4. Provide A Factual Statement
When police arrive, provide what you observed directly. Stick to facts and avoid assumptions.
A clear witness statement can make a major difference during claims and investigation.
